In my life I
had the opportunity to be involved, soon after the graduated
Industrial Engineer, in projects concerning international
business; I was the responsible of the project and of the
installation of telecommunication systems (wire and wireless)
in huge regions, from Southern Italy to Turkey, from Kenya
to Tanzania, from Zambia and Zimbabue (formerly Rhodesia) to
South Africa, in a company of 3000 people, TELETTRA, a few
years ago bought by ALCATEL. With my team, we were quite
successful, but soon I realized that the main reason of our
prevailing on competition was the efficient organization of
our management, that was supplying us, as line people
procuring business, an extraordinary support.
In other words the organization is the best tool of the top
management to compete successfully in the international
markets.
So my responsibility grew up to Area Manager for the whole
African continent, and then extended to the Far East and
Southern Pacific, and then worldwide. Then another Italian
company MAS Spa wanted my services with the target of
setting up an international network capable to offer a well
profitable business as return for the investment made; this
job required me to travel and meet people all around the
world; it included licensing and know-how negotiations with
far eastern companies, amongst which I am pleased to quote
NAN YA P.C., from Taiwan.
The growth of the market share was such to call for the
setting up of two new factories.
This job that I have here necessarily summarized, has been
and it is today as well for me a fascinating commitment; I
had the chance to bring my culture at international level by
the direct knowledge of people of so many foreign countries,
with a variety of different cultures. It procured and still
continues to procure a significant enrichment of my
background and of my personality. Still today, any new case
where I am involved, leaves me a bit of new experience.
The top challenge was the continuous effort to communicate
with other cultures in the full sense of the word.
I rate this a fantastic job.
After approx 30 years, I decided to create my own consulting
company and soon I had to make the choice of the name; the
work I did was calling for “International Business”, but my
expertise was reminding that we were successful also because
of all the organization was working for the line, in
compliance with precise responsibilities and directions from
the top management; this was the key factor that allowed us
to prevail against the very aggressive companies from the UK
and US.
It was clear that the appropriate name of the company should
have been “International Business and Management Consultants”.
This company is now operational since over 15 years; it
specializes in the supply of operational consultancy to the
top management of companies willing to develop international
business. But we do not run either master or graduate
courses: we teach, we assist, we support, we supply coaching
to the management on “how doing things”, “how make things
happening” , themes not normally covered by any graduation
level, but supplied only by ability and experience; things
almost indispensable to beat the competition in a scenario
that has became more and more difficult in the recent years.
Our approach can only be specific for each individual
company; we work along with our client in the field,
supplying “on the job training” servicing as contract
manager, assistant the chairman, or similar position; and
the duration of our commitment goes up to the delivery of an
adequate “cultural” training; most normally changes are
required in the management structure during the life of a
company. We work to win the resistances to the changes.
We are leading and managing the changes.
Today, in front of new challenges, changes in the
organization are mandatory in most cases to gain the
efficiency and efficacy indispensable for the prosperity.
This calls for a review of the single positions on the base
of the competence, also to the purpose to create in the
working place a climate of cordiality and well being,
something that would allow the women and the men involved,
to better manage the so called conflict work/family. So the
attention goes to the individuals, the arrival point of the
structure, and in this framework we supply the Presidents or
CEO support by working close to them. In order to create the
most appropriate structure, we work firmly on the human
resources, today become the key factor in the performance;
the individuals most of times have to be reassigned,
depending on their motivation, their personal targets, their
expectation for life.
We stimulate enthusiasm, passion for the work, developing
talents, the top important asset of the companies.
I use to say that this century will be the century of the “Pacific”,
so far the one gone has been the century of the Atlantic;
the centre of the world business will move from the US to
Asia, where a variety of cultures are present; we can
formally exchange emails, phone calls, messages, but such
cultures remain drastically different, and the more we will
be able to reduce this gap, the better our communication
will be, and after that, the business will follow.
And now some logistics
The experience we have accumulated these years allows us to
supply a unique cultural support, in the form of
personalized training, or “coach”, to young managers due to
raise business in Europe; we can grant them the tacit
knowledge over “what doing and how doing” when trying to
develop business in this part of the world.
We run our programs in English, but knowledge of the
European languages such as Italian, French, German, Spanish
and the relevant good literature can also be supplied
depending on the single cases.
The programs for individuals range from a few months (four
to six) but also up to two years when we are required to
assist and support cases such as the set up of European
operations.
We supply services at our customer’ site, our fees are
normally based on the time spent by us and on the difficulty
of the project; we accept in line of principle to link part
of our fees to the result of our intervention.
Alternatively we can supply residential programs, siting our
Clients in the nearby o Firenze, the capital of
“Renaissance”, city of art mainly, where the nature is
splendid, with olive trees and vineyards all around.
